Need a new phone, but software choices are lacking

My phone is slowly breaking down, so I need a new one. However, looking at the possible choices, I can’t find a model that comes with an operating system that is open for custom development and free of privacy invading bells and whistles. This is a problem. Ubuntu Touch (or Phone, I’m unsure what it is called now) looks like it will be open and free. However, it is not yet available. iOS/Apple doesn’t seem to care and Andoid/google pretends to care but seems to be doing the opposite under the hood. I’m not sure on Windows Phone/microsoft, but the way microsoft operates doesn’t inspire confidence that it will be open and free either.

I need a phone that has specific requirements as well. Besides being open and free, I need a phone that will last a full day every day under heavy use. I need it to last doing the following during an average day on a single charge (and preferably with ~50% overrun capcity):

  • 5 hours of music play
  • 3 hours of sports tracking (including GPS, mobile broadband like LTE or UMTS, heart rate monitoring using BT and processing of data)
  • 2 more hours browsing (using mobile broadband)

Additionally, I’d like the phone to be slighty smaller than the current crop of popular phones, 4.5″ max. and have a SDXC slot and a 3,5mm audio jack that doesn’t make the audio player skip tracks if you insert 3 pole jack. (instead of only working properly with a TRRS style jack as my current phone does)

Unfortunately, this is not possible with most current phones. Battery capacity is sacrificed for esthetics and weight. I don’t mind a phone that is slightly heavier (say 230 grams instead of the currently common 130-180 grams) The only devices that might qualify are ‘phablets’ tablets that can double as phones. These are not practical as phones for me, and I don’t need a tablet as I already own one.

Can someone please make the Edge with enlarged battery a reality? Thank you in advance 🙂
